Policy conditions - composing or rewriting

The only concrete the customer receives are policy conditions. The remaining part is executing the insurance agreement and services. The customer pays the premium for this. Therefore policy conditions should be accessible, readable and understandable for laymen, the customers. This is not achieved by using the language-level of pupils of the primary school. In fact that is an underestimation of the intelligence level of the average customer.

Since 1978 I have been involved in composing various policy conditions. The goal was always trying to achieve accessibility, readability and understandability for the average customer.

With effect from 2011 I composed and rewrote approximately twenty policy conditions on behalf of insurance-brokers and insurers. A client of one of the brokers awarded him by saying:
I have never seen such clear policy conditions”.

This is the result of using the guidelines I developed and moreover by not using habits, like ‘using the same text always’ respectively ‘copy/paste’.
